A Heartfelt Conversation with Tracy Andrews from Cornwall Cleanup Crew

At Du GOOD Studio, we recently had the pleasure of hosting Tracy Andrews, the passionate president of the Cornwall Cleanup Crew, for an insightful and engaging podcast. This episode was filled with fascinating stories and a deep dive into the community-driven efforts to keep Cornwall, NY, clean and beautiful.

Uncovering the Unexpected

One of the most captivating parts of our conversation was Tracy’s recounting of the astonishing items found during cleanup efforts. From scuba tanks to mattresses, and even a howitzer casing, the Cornwall Cleanup Crew has unearthed a myriad of unexpected objects, highlighting the importance and challenges of their mission.

Building a Community

Tracy shared the inspiring origin story of the Cornwall Cleanup Crew, which began with a simple letter to the local newspaper and quickly evolved into a robust volunteer organization. The crew’s success lies in its organic growth and the strong bonds formed among volunteers. High school students, retired military personnel, and local residents all come together every Sunday to tackle litter along Route 32 and other areas.

Challenges and Triumphs

While the crew has faced hurdles such as the closure of the Newburgh transfer station, which forced contractors to drive long distances to dispose of waste, they’ve also seen incredible community support. Donations of safety vests, gloves, and even snacks from local businesses have helped sustain their efforts. Tracy emphasized the power of social media in rallying volunteers and raising awareness about their cause.

Looking Ahead

The Cornwall Cleanup Crew has ambitious goals for the future, including obtaining 501(c)(3) status to expand their impact and serve as a model for other communities. They are determined to demonstrate that small towns can take proactive steps in maintaining their environments, fostering a sense of pride and responsibility among residents.

Get Involved

Tracy’s enthusiasm and dedication are truly infectious. She invites everyone, whether you’re new to Cornwall or a long-time resident, to join the crew’s efforts. Even if you can’t participate in the cleanups, there are numerous ways to support their mission, from donating supplies to providing professional services like accounting or marketing.
